Here is the link to create a Wordle: http://www.wordle.net/

Try one of these ideas:

1. Create beginning of the year bulletin boards
2. Instead of having kids write what they did this summer or asking them, have them create a wordle - with a few parameters, such as: who did you spend time with this summer, what was your favorite activity, where did you go, what is your favorite subjects in school, etc.
3. List words that show how you feel about starting a new year, what topics would you like to discuss, where would you like to take a field trip, etc.
4. Create in teams a wordle of the six pillars of character education and generate words and famous people who exhibited that character. (TeRRiFiCC - Trustworthy, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship)
5. After reading a lit. book, create a wordle about that book: must include 2 prepositional phrases, at least 5 nouns, an exclamation etc. Or figurative language
6. Put a URL in from a site with RSS and it will generate the wordle from tha
7. Social Studies: then and now - take your town and compare it from 1900 to today - put the terms together (with a tilde in between) - model a’s~SUV’s; (govt) name of Mayor then~mayor now; gas price then~gas price now;
8. FACS - names of fabrics
9. Science: wildlife in our area: insects, arachnids, snakes (Yuck), types of deer, types of varmints, birds; This would be really neat to share with a school in another country. Might cause them to do some research to find out ‘What are prairie dogs?’
10. Characteristics of an ideal classroom. Wouldn’t this be fun? Have students generate their own wordle of an ideal classroom. Use their ideas to create an ideal classroom.
11. Students could create a wordle at the end of the week just describing their week using a mixture of nouns, adjectives, and verbs!
12. Type the word FRACTION several times- where do you see fractions, what do they represent, etc.
13. Take a place you’ve been, like Phoenix - describe it with adjectives, name places you’ve been to there - like restaurants, shops, etc.
14. Take an adjective - like AWESOME - type it several times so it is the most obvious word - then add words of objects, places, events, etc that are awesome.
15. Use it as a brainstorming tool.
16. Students create a book jacket over the literature book they read. They must put a wordle on the cover with the most important words in the book, including the main characters, the setting, descriptive words, anything else outstanding in the book.
